OpenDrop Terms of Use

OpenDrop is a free, community-maintained map of clothing-donation locations. By using it or contributing to it, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

1. Community data, used at your own discretion

Locations, hours, accepted items, photos, and confidence indicators are contributed and voted on by the public and by automated imports of open data. They may be incomplete, out of date, or wrong. Verify before you travel, and follow any posted signage or staff instructions at a location. OpenDrop is not affiliated with the charities, retailers, or bin operators shown unless explicitly stated.

2. Acceptable use

When contributing, you agree not to:

We use automated screening, community reporting, and operator moderation to enforce this. Content may be hidden or removed, and abusive contributions reverted, at our discretion.

3. Your contributions

You keep ownership of what you contribute, but you grant OpenDrop and the public a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, adapt, and redistribute it as part of the open dataset under the Open Database License (ODbL), and to redistribute submitted photos as part of the service. Only contribute material you are willing to publish openly under those terms.

4. Reporting & takedown

Use the Report button on any location or photo to flag a problem. Reporting a location files it for moderator review; it does not remove a listing on its own. Enough independent reports on a photo will hide it pending review. To request removal of content you own or that infringes your rights, contact us below.

5. No warranty

The service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. To the fullest extent permitted by law, OpenDrop and its contributors are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the service or reliance on its data.

6. Free software (AGPL-3.0)

OpenDrop’s software is licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3. As required by §13, the complete corresponding source for this running instance is available at github.com/WanderingAstronomer/OpenDrop. You are free to use, study, share, and improve it under the terms of that license.

7. Changes

We may update these terms; material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date above. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
